"That's How The Light Gets In"

Edition of 25 Pieces

“This piece was inspired by a verse from the Leonard Cohen song
“Anthem”. The lyric reads:

“Ring the bells you still can ring’
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything,
That’s how the light gets in,”

The figure in this piece leaps to take hold of the cracked sphere which represents his imperfect life. With his right hand he has bravely ripped it open to look inside and discovers with wonder, that it is filled with brilliant, inviting, light. I sculpted the male figure in the ‘ecourche’ style, showing the beautiful, complex patterns of the musculature to illustrate the complex beauty of great strength. The lighting is incorporated into the piece.
